Growing up in Kansas City, I never imagined I’d fall in love with an ancient tile game during my years in Dallas. But mahjong captured my heart completely – the strategy, the social connection, the beautiful ritual of it all.

When I returned home to Kansas City, I was disappointed to find so few local players. That’s when I realized I could help build the community I was looking for. In 2024, I founded Mahjong KC to share this wonderful game with fellow Kansas City residents.

Now mahjong is truly a family affair in our house. My husband and two daughters have all learned to play, and we regularly gather around our own table for evening games. There’s nothing quite like watching someone’s face light up when they finally understand the rhythm of the game.
